The best things in life are free.
Luckily for Ottawa University students, one of those things is watching movies at the Crystal Plaza Theater. One Sunday night each month, OU students can watch a movie at the local theater free of charge.
Normally, the first 50 students to show up to Free Move Night receive free popcorn and soda; during Student Appreciation Week all participating students received free refreshments with their movie of choice.
Amanda Wadkins, Student Life Assistant, sees the weekly event as a positive way for students to release stress.
“The students really enjoy movie night, they are always asking what movie will be showing next, but we do not know until the Thursday before the Sunday of movie night,” Wadkins said.
Travis Herod, junior, frequents Crystal Plaza Theater nearly every week, and is one of the students who take advantage of the free activity sponsored by the university and local business.
“I look forward to Sunday nights,” Herod said. “Sometimes it can be difficult to find something to do over the weekends and it really helps to have the option to watch a movie.”
Peach Madl, owner of Crystal Plaza Theatre, enjoys seeing students come in every week for free.
“The students bring life to the community,” Madl Said, “We enjoy having them come in every week and working with OU to offer Free Movie Night.”
